Fairhaven Middle School teacher Breann Hulford was named the WSECU Teacher of the Week on Sept. 9 at the Seattle Mariners baseball game.
“I was super surprised and still in shock about it,” Hulford said. “It’s definitely one of the coolest things that’s happened to me as a teacher, and I am incredibly humbled by it.”
Hulford was nominated by a student who said, “Mrs. Hulford makes every day fun and a great learning experience. She is so well respected and loved.” The nomination goes on to say, “Not all teachers can make math fun, but she does. She’s so creative in the way she teaches her lessons as well as having them be very informative.”
The award sponsored by WSECU, 710 AM ESPN Seattle and MyNorthwest gives the recipient a $500 classroom grant. Hulford said she is going to use this grant to purchase new white boards and a nice set of classroom scissors.
Hulford said the most meaningful part of the whole experience was the nomination written by the student.
“Her words were a reminder to push myself to make connections with every student each day,” Hulford said. “It’s also very humbling because I make a lot of mistakes as a teacher and it’s a reminder to continue to grow and improve my practice. I am so grateful to work and learn from amazing educators.”
