Tech Trek 2018

Community in Action

Five eighth grade girls from Bellingham Public Schools attended the American Association of University Women (AAUW) STEM Tech Trek Camps in July 2018.

Emma Stewart and Grace Schamber from Kulshan Middle School, Cassie La from Shuksan Middle School, and Jaeli Tilley from Fairhaven Middle School attended Dunbar Camp on the Pacific Lutheran University campus. Gillian Spilker from Whatcom Middle attended Tech Trek on the Eastern Washington University campus.

The students are sponsored by funds raised and donated by AAUW Bellingham Branch. Community sponsors include Wilson Engineering, Faithlife, Bayview Dental, Rotary Club of Bellingham, Bellingham Lions Club.

Students are selected based on seventh grade science or math teacher nominations, their personal applications, essays and an interview with members of the AAUW Bellingham Branch Tech Trek Selection Committee.

In September, the girls will talk about their Tech Trek experience at the Bellingham AAUW meeting.
