Congressman Rick Larsen, representative for Washington’s 2nd District, toured the new Options High School on Friday, Jan. 26. Rep. Larsen was there to see the new school and to see the career and technical education (CTE) space that supports the aerospace program.

Director of Career and Technical Education, Jeff Tetrick, helped guide the tour and discussed the importance of providing industry standard machinery for students to give them real-world industrial experience. The aerospace curriculum (CORE Plus) was developed in partnership with Boeing and is intended to prepare students for entry-level employment or a post-secondary training program.

“Rep. Larsen was interested in seeing how our program ties to workforce development for skilled labor needs and the next steps for students in the program,” said Tetrick. Most of the visit was spent with Jared Greenwood’s CTE class looking at various machinery and listening to students talk about their coursework.

In January 2017, Rep. Larsen visited Bellingham High School to see what’s happening with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) classes.
