Governor Inslee talks with students and Wild Whatcom staff on a nature walk led by Wild Whatcom, an outdoor education non-profit organization.

Governor Jay Inslee visited Bellingham on Monday, April 25 to award $20,000 to Wild Whatcom from the No Child Left Inside grant program of the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office.

Wild Whatcom, a local outdoor education non-profit organization, will partner with Bellingham Public Schools to provide outdoor learning opportunities to more than 200 second graders in the district’s six Title 1 schools.

EdVentures will begin in fall 2016 and include a series of nature outings during the 2016-17 school year where second grade students will experience the natural environment firsthand. These outdoor experiences will be enhanced by classroom activities and teaching before and after each outing.

During his visit, the Governor visited with students from Northern Heights Elementary School participating in a Wild Whatcom afterschool program and joined them on a nature walk led by Wild Whatcom staff.

The EdVentures program has the contributing support of the Whatcom Community Foundation.
