Squalicum students attending WMEA conference

The 43rd Annual Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) State Conference will be held Feb. 11 through Feb. 14 at the Yakima Convention Center. High school musicians from Skagit and Whatcom counties have auditioned and been accepted into an All-State ensemble and will perform with other students that were selected from around the state.

The following students in Bellingham Public Schools have been accepted and will head to the state conference where they will rehearse and perform with their peers.

From Bellingham High School: Chris Hayner, Bassoon, All-State Concert Band; Glenna McGarity, Flute, All-State Concert Band; Elena Bauer, French Horn, All-State Symphony Orchestra; Adam Billings, Oboe, All-State Symphony Orchestra; Ben Axlund, Bass 2, All-State Symphonic Choir; Carmen Ferran, Alto 1, All-State Symphonic Choir;  Molly Holtorf, Alto 2, All-State Treble Choir; Jarred Main, Bass 1, All-State Symohonic Choir; and Izaya Taylor, Bass 2, All-State Symphonic Choir.

From Sehome High School: Juliet Hope, Viola, All-State Symphony Orchestra; Caitlin Bertelsen, Soprano 1, All-State Symphonic Choir; Emma Shaughnessy, Alto 1, All-State Symphonic Choir; Kyler Southcott, Tenor 2, All-State Jazz Choir; and Alex Harris, Bassoon, All-State Wind Ensemble;

From Squalicum High School: Izzy Buri, Soprano 1, All-State Treble Choir; Elizabeth Hanna, Alto 2, All-State Treble Choir; Melanie Daniels, Soprano 2, All-State Symphonic Choir; Tristan Wine, Bass 2, All-State Symphonic Choir; Kenji Maeda, Bass 1, All-State Symphonic Choir; and Lydia Hovind, Trombone, All-State Concert Band.

The various ensembles will perform at a concert on Sunday, Feb. 14 in Yakima.
