This school year, Alderwood Elementary has a new program which includes free breakfast and lunch for all Alderwood students.
Since the first day of school, students at Alderwood have been able to enjoy free breakfast and lunch thanks to a community eligibility provision.
The district applied for participation in the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act and was accepted.
All students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of income level. There are no extra fees or charges of any kind. Additionally, students will no longer be charged any late fees for school meals.
Janae Hodge, Alderwood Elementary principal, said that free breakfast and lunch provides a great relief not only to the parents, but to the students as well.
“Kids being able to start their day with a healthy and nutritious breakfast goes a long way to help them focus throughout the school day,” said Hodge. “This program allows all kids to focus on their learning and studies instead of worrying about their meals.”
Children may enjoy free breakfast every weekday between 8 and 8:25 a.m. and may enjoy free lunch every day during the scheduled class lunch time.
