Bellingham Public Schools psychologists are honored by WSASP.

Bellingham Public Schools’ Preschool Evaluation Team was awarded the School Psychology Services Award from the Washington State Association of School Psychologists (WSASP) on Oct. 16 in Spokane.

The School Psychology Services Award is given to school districts, hospitals or other corporate entities, which exemplify effective school psychology best practices in assessment intervention, consultation, education supervision, or research/evaluation.

Sharon Missiaen, school psychologist at Silver Beach and Wade King, nominated district staff for the award.

“I nominated the preschool psychologists, Laura Horan, Dianne Ardourel and Debbie Haney, because of their heroic efforts to move toward a centralized model of assessment for the preschool referrals,” Missiaen said. “The movement to centralize was done in part to try to develop a more consistent evaluation process. They have been working tirelessly all of last year, against many obstacles, to move this idea forward. They have volunteered countless hours of their own time to make this work better.”
