Middle school girls hold up their tech trek scholarships.

Eight middle school students from Bellingham Public Schools received scholarships from the Bellingham Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to attend the Tech Trek summer camp at Pacific Lutheran University in July 2015.

Students attending were Fairhaven Middle School’s Linnea DeVange and Elena Wolgamot;  Kulshan Middle School’s Susannah Bloom;  Shuksan Middle School’s Makenna Fowler and Amanda Smith;  and Whatcom Middle School’s Anishka Duggal, Milan Gauthier and Pavanjeet Kaur Parmar. The young women received Certificates of Recognition as 2015 Tech Trek Scholars.

The young women were recommended by their science or math teachers in seventh grade. The application process included a written application explaining interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects, an essay elaborating interest in science and math, and a written referral from a teacher. The finalists were chosen based on their applications and an interview with the AAUW selection committee members.

Tech Trek is an educational summer camp for rising eighth graders offering STEM education and enrichment for girls interested in pursuing the sciences in school and possibly as a career. This is the third year that Tech Trek experience has been offered in Washington state and the third year that the Bellingham AAUW has sponsored girls with scholarships.

Please let me know the process if it’s available.
    thank you.
