Ultimate Frisbee team.

Representing Bellingham Public Schools, teams from Squalicum and Bellingham high schools participated on April 25 and 26 in the largest coed youth Ultimate Frisbee tournament in the world called Spring Reign, hosted by DiscNW.

Competing among 16 high school teams, the Squalicum High School Ultimate Frisbee Club, Casually Fierce, finished in third place.

“I was incredibly proud of how they responded to their first competitive ultimate Frisbee experience. On every point, students played tough defense, and improved offensive strategy,” John Chesbrough said, club adviser and Squalicum math and science teacher. “Players must resolve all foul calls on their own without the intervention of referees and coaches.  I am proud to say that our kids were amazing on this regard.”

Bellingham High had its best finish yet, earning 13th place. In one of its winning games, Bellingham’s team beat Eastside Catholic 15-6.

“I think we did an excellent job of playing hard, having fun, and being cool about it. We were good sportsmen and women on the field and earned the respect of our peers,” John Stockman said, Bellingham Ultimate Frisbee coach and science teacher.
