Community organizations from across Bellingham and Whatcom County joined together to put on the Shuksan Community Family Night on Feb. 25 at Shuksan Middle School. The evening was full of learning, fun and community building.
Highlights of the event included a pasta dinner in Shuksan’s cafeteria, community resource tables set up in the hallway, workshops for parents and students, childcare and activities for younger children, and door prizes from local businesses. More than 300 people attended with approximately 70 volunteers organizing and running the event.
The Community Family Night is a collaborative effort between Shuksan Middle School, Whatcom Family & Community Network, Communities in Schools, Whatcom County Health Department, the City of Bellingham, Whatcom Prevention Coalition, Western Washington University, Bellingham Police Department, and Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Other Community Partners include, the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, Catholic Community Services, Rebound of Whatcom County, Worksource, Smart Trips, Girls & Boys Scouts, BTC Admissions, Whatcom Literacy Council, Opportunity Council, SEA Mar, the Boys and Girls Club, Strengthening Families, WCC Admissions, 4-H, Compass to Campus, Migrant Family Outreach, Bellingham School District Community Resource Center, Bellingham Fire Fighters Union and Animals as Natural Therapy.
