The Assistance League of Bellingham (ALB) through their program Operation School Bell clothed 1,540 children in need, kindergarten through grade 8, in Whatcom County. Of those, 508 students were from Bellingham Public Schools.
Three ‘shopping’ events took place between Oct. 2014 and Jan. 2015. Each child received $80 to spend in Target for school appropriate clothes. The children also received a $30 voucher to Payless Shoes. More than 50 ALB volunteers worked at the Target events.
The Assistance League runs their thrift and gift shop at 2817 Meridian with volunteers. The shop provides funding for Operation School Bell, the Summer Enrichment Scholarships for students in middle and high schools, and their other community programs.
