Bellingham Public Schools hosted more than 500 students and family members at the first annual Design Your Future, college and career planning workshop on Feb. 9. The event was an opportunity for high school students to begin thinking about their post-high school years.
The keynote presenter was Maria Furtado, executive director of Colleges that Change Lives, an organization dedicated to advancing a student-centered college search process. Following Ms. Furtado’s presentation, break-out sessions hosted by regional higher education specialists took place on a variety of topics. They included: Trends and Opportunities in Public Universities in Washington State; Applying for Honors College; Canadian Colleges and Universities; The Value of a Liberal Arts Education; Career Pathways in Washington State; Colleges for Artistically Talented Students; Technical College/Community College Opportunities; and taking the ACT and SAT
Bellingham Public Schools holds events throughout the school year to help students prepare for the future. Annually, high schools coordinate financial aid information nights, FAFSA completion events and the fall College Fair.
