A Squalicum High School student has her blood pressure checked.

Squalicum High School partnered with the Nick of Time Foundation and local physicians on Oct. 8 offering free, voluntary heart screenings for students. A total of 263 screenings were performed during the school day by 116 volunteers. Thirteen students were found to need additional monitoring or follow-up.

Nick of Time is an organization that educates schools, athletes and families about Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), heart disease and death in young people. SCA is the leading cause of sudden death in young active people. Teenagers often don’t know they have heart disease because there are no warning signs.
