Silver Beach Students Lead Outreach Projects

At Silver Beach Elementary School two students led outreach projects to make a difference for people in our local and global community.

Second grader Lucy Trowbridge sponsored an outreach project that challenged the community to donate sunglasses for people who live in the Himalayas and Andes. Lucy learned that people living in these mountains are exposed to intense sunlight year-round causing many people to suffer from eye damage and disease. Lucy collected the sunglasses for the organization Shades of Love. This organization distributes donated sunglasses in remote villages to help the people who live there. Thanks to support from the Skagit Valley Co-op, Lucy was able to reach her goal of more than 100 sunglasses.

With the end of the school year approaching, first grader Jake Drennen led a drive to collect food for families in need during the summer. In only a few short days, the Silver Beach community donated several boxes and bags full of food to help Jake’s food drive be a success.

Great job, Lucy and Jake!
