Singers and Percussion Win at State Level

In late April 2017, singers and musicians competed once again at the annual Washington State Solo/Ensemble Competition At Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash.

Bellingham High junior Aaron McInnis took first place in State in the tenor category and Squalcium High senior Tristan Wine took first place in the bass category.  Olivia Brice, Bellingham High senior, took second place in the soprano category. (See photo.)

The Squalicum Percussion Ensemble Trio from Squalicum High took third place in the percussion — small ensemble category.

Congratulations to all the district singers and musicians who attended. Aside from the state winners listed above, the following students and ensembles in Bellingham Public Schools won in their category at the January 2017 Regional competition and also competed at State.

From Bellingham High School: Isabel Buri, soprano; Luna Chambliss-Strunk, mezzo soprano; Showstoppers, large mixed vocal ensemble; Olivia Claasen, flute; Chris Hayner, bassoon; Mary Clement, tenor/baritone saxophone; Bellingham High Sextet, large woodwind ensemble; Joseph Kowis, trombone; and Elena Bauer, french horn.

From Sehome High School: Frank Youngblood, soprano-alto saxophone; Joyce Kim, viola; Ariana Raduege, cello; Sehome Sucia Chamber Orchestra, large string ensemble; Ry Dozier-Lerum, piano; and Violet Harris, harp.

From Squalicum High School: SQHS Brass Choir, brass-large; Eamon Carmichael, timpani; and Jacob Lann, guitar.
