2017 Whatcom County Math Championship results; district sweeps first place in all individual categories

The results from the Feb. 25, 2017 Whatcom County Math Championship are in.

Awards for first, second and third place for student in Bellingham Public Schools are as follows:

Kulshan Middle School’s 8th grade team took first place, and Fairhaven Middle School’s team took 2nd and 3rd place;
Fairhaven’s 7th grade team took first and second place, and Kulshan’s 7th grade team took third place; and
Fairhaven’s 6th grade team took first and third place, and Whatcom Middle School’s 6th grade team took second place.

At the 5th grade level, Silver Beach Elementary took second place while Happy Valley Elementary took third place.

At the 4th grade level, Wade King Elementary School took both first and second place.

In the individual categories, Bellingham Public School students swept the first place awards.  Sam Coble, first place 8th grade (Kulshan); Kieran Murphy, first place 7th grade (Fairhaven);  Ryan Ching, first place 6th grade (Fairhaven); James Murphy, first place 5th grade (Wade King); and Ethan Kuzin, first place 4th grade (Wade King.)

Other top placements include: Wesley Sluys, second place 6th grade (Whatcom); Reese Watabayashi, third place 8th grade (Fairhaven); Mia Case, third place 7th grade (Fairhaven); Vidan Cicic, third place 6th grade (Fairhaven); and Jae-Yoon Lee, third place 4th grade (Happy Valley).
