Students Celebrate School Board

Educators in Action

Bellingham High School Showstoppers surprised the school board Thursday night with a song to honor their commitment to The Bellingham Promise, including visual and performing arts. Shuksan Middle School eighth graders created portraits of the five directors: President Douglas Benjamin and directors Kelly Bashaw, Camille Diaz Hackler, Quenby Peterson and Steven Smith.

In recognition of School Board Recognition Month, our school board received accolades for all of their work to monitor progress toward the goals and outcomes in The Bellingham Promise. For the second time, the Washington State School Directors’ Association has honored our board by naming it a 2016 Board of Distinction. This is in recognition of “responsible school governance as defined by the Washington School Board Standards.  In addition, WSSDA has recognized directors Doug Benjamin and Camille Diaz Hackler for completing 18 credits of professional development in a Leading for Equity workshop at the 2016 WSSDA Annual Conference.

Congratulations to our school board and a special thank you to our student artists and performers!

    Linda Short and The Showstoppers,
That was a breath-taking performance through my laptop! I can only imagine the electricity in the actual room as you sang. Linda we are so lucky to have you in our district working with students of a wide age-range. Your impact is wide and deep!
